Mouse is not working on a laptop

Users often choose laptops as stationary computers that are used at home or in the office and are rarely transported. Despite the fact that each laptop has a touchpad, many laptop owners are much more likely to use a standard mouse, either wired or wireless, in conjunction with it. By connecting a mouse to a laptop, you may encounter a problem – it does not work. This situation may arise with both – the manipulators connected by USB, and by PS / 2. WIRED MOUSE DOES NOT WORK ON A LAPTOP

Wired mice have not lost their popularity with the introduction of wireless models on the market. This is largely because this manipulator does not need to be constantly charged. Also this kind of mouse is relatively cheap. In addition, mice with high DPI are most often wired, and they allow you to more accurately control the cursor.

Wired mouse can be connected by USB or by PS / 2, and these connection options have significant differences:

• When the mouse is connected via USB, drivers that allow the system to recognize the manipulator and start working with it are installed immediately on the computer. A Windows user connecting his mouse for the very first time to his computer will see a corresponding message saying that a new device is connected and the system will need some time to install the drivers. If this message does not appear, there are two possible options: a problem with the USB port or a problem with the mouse. Try to connect the manipulator to another USB-input in the laptop or test the mouse on another computer;
• PS / 2. Unlike USB, PS / 2 port does not provide instant drivers installation when a mouse is connected. Which means that you have to connect the mouse to the laptop through the PS / 2 connector when the laptop is turned off or you need to restart the computer after connecting the mouse.

The most common reason for the wired mouse not to work on a laptop is a malfunction of the mouse itself. Check the manipulator on another computer to make sure it is working.

WIRELESS MOUSE DOES NOT WORK ON A LAPTOP

Wireless mice for computers appeared not so long ago, but the principle of their operation is not much different from wired ones. Information from the mouse is transferred to a special receiver that plugs into the USB connector. Based on the principle of the device operation, we can draw the following conclusions about why the wireless mouse does not work when connected to a laptop:

• Lack of power. Because wireless mice do not connect directly to a computer, they need an autonomous power supply. This source is most often represented by a built-in mouse battery or just standard batteries. Make sure that the power source is actually in the mouse, and it is not discharged;
• Lack of drivers. As with the wired mouse, you will need to install drivers on your computer to connect the wireless mouse via USB. Windows will automatically install drivers the first time you connect the device, you will only need to wait a bit. If the drivers installation does not occur, try inserting the signal receiver into another USB port or restarting the computer;
• Mouse is freezed or turned off. All wireless mice without exception have an on / off switch. Whether the mouse is turned on or no depends on the position of this switch. Set the switch to on, so that the mouse will start to operate. If the switch is in on, move it to the off mode, and then back to on, thereby eliminating the problem of the mouse freezing, if present;
• The receiver is damaged.

As with the wired mouse, if none of the tips above helped to fix the problem, make sure that the mouse works by testing it on another computer or laptop.

MOUSE DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE OF THE STATIC ELECTRICITY

The situation when the mouse does not work because of the static electricity is rare, but it is still possible, so we will also consider it in the framework of this article. In this case, this problem is relevant, both for wireless and wired mice. Because of the accumulated static charge in the computer, mouse may refuse to work. We recommend the following steps to fix the problem:

1. Turn off the computer and disconnect it from the outlet;
2. Remove the laptop battery;
3. When the battery is removed, hold down the computer power button for at least 30 seconds;
4. Release the power button and install the battery back in the laptop;
5. Connect your computer to a power outlet and turn it on.

The above actions allow you to remove the static voltage that has accumulated in the laptop. If the mouse was not working for this particular reason, after removing static electricity there should be no problems.
