System process is loading hard disk and ram up to 100%
On a contrary to common misconception, System file is not a virus but a process of the Windows operating system. It is responsible for correct operation of all applications in the “background” mode, that is, without active control by the user. This process is not hidden, and you can easily find it in the Task Manager.
The main problem of the System.exe process is that it cannot be stopped. Thus, if the System loads RAM or hard disk of your computer, it cannot be turned off using simple methods. Lowering the priority of a process using standard Windows tools also does not lead to success.
System process is taking up RAM space little by little and, as a result, completely loading it. In the same time in the Task Manager you will see that the System process is loading no more than 200-400 MB of RAM, but in fact it will be completely filled, and your computer will start to freeze when performing any tasks. Similarly, the System process might be loading a hard disk.
To prevent the System file from loading your computer and wasting unreasonable resources on the way, you should disable some “background” tasks in Windows:
- Disable antivirus, because the problem may lie precisely in it. Most often, it is the DrWeb antivirus that is seriously loading the System file in the background;
- Refuse from the automatic Windows updating;
- Disable some standard Windows services.
If you can easily turn off and remove DrWeb without any help (as any computer user can do it),the other two tasks are more difficult to handle, and we are going to tell you in detail how to do it.
How to disable automatic windows 10 updates and system services
Microsoft provided the possibility of automatic Windows updates (we are talking about Windows 10 and earlier versions). Unfortunately, this function on some computers leads to the fact that when checking for available updates on Microsoft services, the System file loads the RAM or hard disk. In this case, the only solution is to turn off Windows 10 automatic updates. Attention: If you have disabled Windows 10 automatic updates, we recommend that you check for new operating system assemblies every few months (or weeks).
Disabling Windows 10 automatic update is quite simple and this is what you need to do:
- Press Windows + R keys combination and in the opened “Run” menu set the services.msc command, and then click “OK”.
- The services.msc command will open a menu that displays all system services. Scroll through quite a large list until you find the Windows Update (Local Computer) service. Right-click on the detected item and in the drop-down menu select “Properties”.
- Properties of the selected service will open, and here you must first click the “Stop” button if it is active, and then change the “Startup type” to “Disabled”.
By completing the above instructions, the service that automatically verifies the relevance of the current version of Windows on the computer in the “background” mode will be disabled in the operating system.
In addition to automatic Windows 10 updates, in order for the System process not to overload the system, you must disable some services. In the Services menu, which is opened by the services.msc command, you also need to stop, and then disable, the following local services:
- KtmRm for distributed transaction coordinator
- Snupchat
- Superfetch
- IPsec Policy Agent
- Distributed Link Tracking Client
- Diagnostic Policy Service
Please note: depending on the version of the Windows operating system, as well as the number of installed drivers and codecs, some of the services listed above may be missing.
After disabling DrWeb anti-virus, automatic Windows 10 updates and some services, you should restart your computer. After disabling a number of tasks that took away a lot of computer resources, the overall performance of the system should be improved, and you should no longer see any signs of hard disk or RAM overload in the Task Manager.
