HOW TO FIX THE USB DEVICE OVER CURRENT STATUS DETECTED ERROR
A USB Device Over Current Status Detected error may occur suddenly, simply at the next reboot of your computer. Most often this is a software problem that can be eliminated in the following ways:
- First, try disconnecting all new USB devices from your computer. If new USB devices were connected to your PC at the last session of its operation, they must be disconnected;
- Then – one by one – disconnect other USB devices that are connected to your computer, especially those that recently had any kind of problems. For example, if you recently spilled water on the keyboard – disconnect this exactly device;
- If disabling USB devices one at a time did not help, try disconnecting all devices that are connected to USB on your computer at once, and then restart your PC;
- If the USB Device Over Current Status Detected error disappeared when all devices were disconnected, this indicates that the problem lies in one of them. Try to connect devices to USB connectors one at a time to determine which of them conflicts with the system.
Having identified the device which causes a USB Device Over Current Status Detected error, try to test it on another computer. If it refuses to work normally with other systems, it will have to be replaced.
OTHER WAYS TO FIX THE USB DEVICE OVER CURRENT STATUS DETECTED ERROR
There are situations when the error in question is not related to the devices connected to your computer. For example, it may occur after your computer was moved from one place to another or cleaned from dust.
The first thing to check is whether the metal elements of the computer come into contact with various metal house appliances. In particular, make sure that the system unit does not come into contact with metal parts of a heating system, antenna cable, and others.
It is possible that a USB Device Over Current Status Detected error is indicating damaged USB connectors. One of those connectors could be deformed due to repeated use or because of excessive physical impact on it when the device was connected. Try disconnecting the additional USB connectors on your computer. For example, these can be USB-connectors, which are built into the computer case from the front side. They connect to the connectors with the inscription F_USB, USB1112 and others similar on the motherboard.
Also, a jumper on the motherboard may become the cause of the USB Device Over Current Status Detected error. This is a small jumper, which serves to close several contacts into a single low-current network. Jumper on the motherboard is usually marked as USB_PWR, USBPWR or USB POWER. There could be several jumpers like that on the motherboard. Make sure that these jumpers are set correctly on the motherboard and they close 1 and 2 pins, not 2 and 3. Users often damage jumpers when cleaning their computers from dust.
You need to look for jumpers on the motherboard next to the F_USB connectors where the USB connectors are connected.
MECHANICAL (HARDWARE) CAUSES OF THE USB DEVICE OVER CURRENT STATUS DETECTED ERROR
If none of the above methods has helped to cope with the USB Device Over Current Status Detected error, there is probably a mechanical (hardware) malfunction in one of the computer components. It can be:
- Perhaps there was an overvoltage of the motherboard or overheating of some of its components, which caused USB-connectors malfunction;
- Power Supply Unit. It is possible that the PSU is not working properly; its operation can be checked on another computer;
- USB connectors on the motherboard. If the problem is not with additional USB connectors, but with the main ones that come from the motherboard, you’ll have to give it for diagnostics and repair.
