Telegram is one of the most popular messengers right now. Even on the iPhone in many regions, it beats in opularity the built-in iMessage. Telegram application can be downloaded for free in the App Store. But many users notice that after they install the application on the iPhone, memory starts disappearing. This program often takes up a lot of free space on a mobile device, constantly saving various files that are sent through chats and channels. In this article we will tell you how to clear the Telegram cache on iPhone and configure it in such a way that the application does not take up a lot of space.
How much space does Telegram take on iPhone: how to find out
To find out the amount of memory allocated for Telegram on the iPhone, you can use the smartphone settings. Just go to the “Settings” application, and then go to “General”.
Here select “iPhone Storage”.
Please note: It will take a couple of minutes, especially if the device has a lot of memory, for the iPhone software to analyze the used and free space.
Now you should be able to see which apps are taking up the most space on your iPhone. Search for Telegram in this list, so you can find out if the program really takes up a lot of free memory on the device.
Telegram application itself does not take up much space – only about 100 MB, and even less on some devices. The main amount of memory goes to documents and data that are saved from the application on the device for quick viewing. If you click on the “Telegram” item in the section with information about the occupied space, you will see the distribution of the occupied Telegram memory – the size of the application itself and the size of all documents and other data.
Please note: At this point, you can offload the application on your iPhone. If you use it often, then we do not recommend doing so because next time you’ll need to use it, you will have to download the program all over again.
How to clear Telegram cache on iPhone
To reduce the amount of memory that Telegram takes up on the device, you will need to run the program. After that, from the bottom, click on “Settings” and select “Data and Storage”.
Here go to the “Storage Usage” section.
It will take a few minutes to calculate the amount of data that the app has stored on the iPhone. After that, below you should be able to see how much space on the device is occupied by data from the messenger in “Telegram Cache”.
Scrolling down, you should be able to see a list of chats and channels. Next to each item you will find information on the occupied space.
You can clear the cache completely by clicking “Clear Telegram Cache” or just delete the cache of a specific chat / channel by clicking on it and selecting the appropriate item.
When you select “Clear Telegram Cache”, you are going to see a list of data that can be deleted – photos, videos, files and more.
Important note: When you clear Telegram cache, messages from channels and chats are not deleted. At any time, you can again download to your device a photo, video or other file that was deleted when clearing the cache – it will continue to be stored on Telegram servers.
How to set up Telegram cache on iPhone
Telegram allows its users to independently determine how the file caching system will work on their devices. To do this, go to the application settings and select “Data and Storage”.
Here you can optimize the work of the messenger with traffic. To do this, set which files can be downloaded automatically using cellular and using Wi-Fi. It is possible to disable automatic data loading for both points – then the space on the device will not be spontaneously filled up with data. This is the best option for those users who have very little free space on their iPhones.
In the “Storage Usage” section, you can choose how long the downloaded data is going to be kept as well as the maximum cache size. Having correctly set these settings, you can be sure that Telegram application will not take up more than the allotted space.
Once you optimized Telegram cache and traffic use properly, you can forget about clearing the cache constantly or worrying that the application takes up too much space.
