How to enable or disable passcode on Apple Watch

Since the Apple Watch is directly connected to the iPhone, all sorts of personal information about the user can be learned through this device. To reduce the risk of losing sensitive data, we recommend that you lock your Apple Watch screen with a passcode. This is the easiest way to avoid any kind of troubles associated with strangers getting access to your personal information and data. In this article, we’ll look at all possible ways to set a passcode for your Apple Watch as well as at how to enable or disable it.

How to enable passcode on Apple Watch

There are two ways to set up a passcode on your Apple Watch – on the watch itself or on your iPhone. Let’s consider both options.

On the iPhone

You can enable the passcode on Apple Watch from the iPhone that is connected to it. To do this, open the Watch application on your smartphone and go to the “Passcode” section.

At the top of the screen click “Turn Passcode On”.

Please note: You cannot enable a passcode on Apple Watch if the watch is not connected to a smartphone.

Now you need to enter the password code on the watch screen. Enter the passcode you would like to use – it must be 4 digits.

Please note: When you enter the passcode for the first time, you will need to perform this step again so that the device can verify the correct combination.

That’s it, now the passcode will be enabled on your Apple Watch.

On the Apple Watch

The way to turn on the passcode on Apple Watch directly from the watch is practically the same as the way to turn it on from the phone, so let’s take a look at it briefly.

Press the Digital Crown on the watch to open the menu.

Now in the list of available applications find settings. Go to the settings.

Select the “Passcode” section.

Then click “Turn Passcode On”.

Enter the code you would like to use (twice for confirmation).

The passcode will be activated.

How to disable passcode on Apple Watch

Now let’s look at ways to disable the passcode on the Apple Watch – on your smartphone or directly on your watch.

On the iPhone

It is not always convenient to enter the password code all the time, and it can be customized to suit your needs – which we will discuss below. Here we will also tell you how to disable the passcode on Apple Watch completely.

Important note: Security experts do not recommend disabling passwords on mobile devices completely.

You can turn off the Apple Watch passcode through the Watch app on your smartphone. Open it and go to the “Passcode” section.

Now you need to unlock the watch as you will not be able to remove the passcode with the locked watch. When you unlock your watch, tap “Turn Passcode Off”.

Now you need to enter your passcode on the watch to confirm the desire to disable the passcode.

After that the passcode will be disabled.

On the Apple Watch

Click on the Digital Crown – a wheel on the side of your watch. You are going to see a menu.

Scroll to the settings and enter.

Select the “Passcode” section.

Then click “Turn Passcode Off”.

Now you only need to enter the passcode once, and it will be disabled on the watch.

Advanced Apple Watch passcode settings

Let’s take a look at some additional options that Apple Watch users might find useful to help protect their information.

Simple Passcode. In the “Passcode” section of the Watch application, you can make the password more complex. By default, your Apple Watch password is 4 digits long. If you deactivate the switch next to “Simple passcode”, you will be able to set up a passcode that will consist of more numbers – up to 10.

Please note: You cannot set a letter password on Apple Watch.

Unlock with iPhone. This option enshures that the Apple Watch will always be unlocked when your iPhone is unlocked.

Please note: This only works if the Apple Watch is on your wrist, that is, you are wearing it. If removed, the watch will be locked even when the iPhone screen is unlocked.

Erase Data. This option allows you to reduce the risk of your passcode being cracked by strangers. If you activate it, after 10 unsuccessful passcode entries all your data on Apple Watch will be completely erased.

As you can see, the Apple Watch passcode offers enough options to make it both convenient and secure for the user.
