How to delete a Telegram message
When deleting a message in Telegram, you can choose two options – delete only for yourself, or delete for yourself and for the other person (other people, if we are talking about a group chat). Below we will tell you how to do this in the official Telegram application on a PC or phone.
On the computer
To delete a message that was sent in the Telegram chat on your PC, you need to go to this chat. Next, find the message you need, hover your mouse over it and right-click. You will see a context menu. You need to select “Delete message”.
In the pop-up window that you are going to see, it is possible to determine whether to delete the message only for yourself or for another user too. If you want their message too, check the corresponding box and click “Delete”.
After that, the message will be deleted.
Please note: This way, you can delete messages that the user has already read as well as those they have not read yet.
On the phone
Deleting messages from the official Telegram application on your phone is just as easy. To do this you need to go to the chat with particular user and hold your finger on the message that you want to delete. You are going to see a pop-up menu. Now select “Delete”.
You are going to see two options – delete only for yourself, or delete also for another participant. Select an acceptable option, after which the message will be deleted, according to your choice.
Important note: You can delete not only your own messages, but also the messages of another participant of the chat in the exact same way: only for yourself or for all participants of the dialogue.
How to delete a Telegram chat
It is possible to delete not only individual messages, but the whole chat too. In this case, you also have the opportunity to choose – delete the entire chat only for yourself or for all participants.
On the computer
To completely delete a chat with a user or a group of users in Telegram, you need to go to this chat and click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the application. You are going to see a context menu.
In this menu you must select “Delete chat”.
After that, you will be able to choose – to delete the chat completely for all participants or only for yourself. If you want to delete a chat for everyone, check the corresponding box and click “Delete”.
Please note: Deleted chat in Telegram cannot be restored. If you delete it, all information will be lost forever including files, photos, and everything else that was stored in this chat.
On the phone
You can completely delete a chat in the official Telegram application on your smartphone. To do this, find the desired chat in the contact list and hold your finger on it. You are going to see a pop-up context menu. In this menu you need to click “Delete”.
Next, you will be given a choice – to delete the chat only for yourself or for another user\users too. Select the option you prefer.
After that, the process of deleting the chat will begin. Please note that it is possible to cancel deleting a chat by clicking on the corresponding button, which will be available for 5 seconds only.
If you will not cancel the deletion of the chat within 5 seconds, it will be impossible to restore it.
